STRIKE AT CNH INDUSTRIAL

Editor Alex Gray reports on the strike at CNH Industrial in Burlington, Iowa, and Racine, Wisconsin.

UAW members are striking for better pay and workplace benefits amid rapidly increasing inflation in the U.S. Nick Guernsey, president of the UAW Local 807 in Burlington, has told the members to expect a three- to six-month strike.

The plant is responsible for manufacturing combine harvesting headers for Case IH and New Holland, as well as tractor loaders, backhoes, rough-terrain forklifts, and crawler dozers for its construction brand.

U.S. FARM PRODUCTION

President Biden announces three steps to encourage farmers to “boost production, lower food prices, and feed the world.”

The administration will increase by more than 50% the number of counties where insurance for double-cropping is offered; expand its technical assistance and cost-sharing programs for adoption of precision-agriculture technology; and double, to $500 million, its grant program for more U.S. fertilizer production.
